Reflection

The whole major issue discussed in this class from the very beginning was experience, but not only experience but how difficult it was to convey the experience of others. The whole first semester I remember reading the novel about narrative where we learned the different types of narrative form to convey experience. Many of the techniques learned from this novel is what I used to help me put together my story. I took techniques like non linear sequence, figures, using other ways of communication like letters conversations, etc and used them in creating a whole new story.

With this work I don’t believe I used any shortcomings in the points of belief. I think the overall story had more to do with rational discourse with Natalie using intellectual honesty and didn’t have any biases on the way to try to help her family and her husband. I did have her go through steps looking carefully at all her facts for she could act on what was most important. With discussing the affect, I used more of media and pictures to capture the very feeling they were going through. One thing I expressed with media was when the husband returned from the war and didn’t want his wife around him I put the song from Jemi Hendrix American Women. This song just goes to describe how the husband didn’t want her around. The “assemblage” of all these different forms of expression is also has to do with the overall affect of the experience. In my work this worked in different ways that I showed through pictures, videos, cultural images, and even quotes.

Self-reflexive knowledge

After the whole experiment was over, I went back and read everything all over again and really enjoyed how I could put together a story with pictures and videos to explain or show what someone was feeling. It gave me new insights to when I read and see something. This whole work reminds me of when I went to the art work exhibition and I saw an art work that took pages from a book and drew out a particular scene with simply a paper and pen. I really didn’t put to much mind into that besides thinking it was really strange but cool. But new insight has got me to thinking that it is obvious that not everyone can explain the way they feel with just words sometimes it is better to show a picture or even hear a song to show the way you feel. Like if I am feeling happy and rejuvenated maybe I will have a picture of a bloomed exotic flower or something to show how I feel.

Also with these readings and novels I have learned about different way to see forgetting. With novels like Incredibly Close and Extremely Loud and Ceremony I have been able to understand that sometimes it is better to remember things for you to start felling better. Instead of what most people try to do with just trying to forget everything.

The advantages I think I had with writing this story were all the novels I expressed that helped me succeed in writing this story but also that my father leaves to another city every so often so I know how it feels to have your father come back and maybe scream at someone or say he wants to be alone. It doesn’t feel to pleasant so I have a little bit of the experience that Natalie and the children felt. However, it was still difficult to express the feelings she was feeling to see her husband at his worst and under the influence of drug. I have never really been around that so within that aspect it was difficult for me to express her experience.
